How to elevate access for Global administrator users in Azure

As a global administrator user in Azure AD, you might not have access to all subscriptions and management groups in your directory by default. This is a built-in security feature of Azure.

This can often result in failure to perform certain tasks, and subscriptions might not be visible in the Azure portal.

In many cases, to solve these problems you need to elevate your access.

Elevate access for global admin

Sign in to the Azure portal or the Azure AD admin center as a Global Administrator.

  • Go to 'Azure Active Directory'
  • Select 'Properties'
  • Under 'Access management for Azure resources', set the toggle to Yes
  • Click 'Save'

This setting will only apply to the currently signed in user.

It is highly recommended to remove the elevated access once you have performed the tasks that require it.

To remove the elevated access, repeat the steps above and set the toggle back to No
